Los Angeles Times: Boy Scouts sued in sexual abuse case

A Santa Barbara County boy was sexually abused by his Scout leader in 2007. A judge overseeing the lawsuit brought by the boy’s family has ordered the Boy Scouts to hand over confidential files detailing allegations of sexual abuse by Scout leaders around the nation.

Police Officer Demands Retraction

Almost three weeks after a five-part series was published by the Santa Barbara News Press written by freelance journalist Peter Lance who scrutinized police officer Kasi Beutel’s DUI arrest practices, Beutel has formally requested that large portions of the articles be retracted. In a letter hand-delivered to the News-Press Monday evening, her new lawyers — Santa Barbara attorneys David Nye and Jonathan Miller — demanded that the daily “publish all retractions the paper deems appropriate.”

Santa Barbara Independent: Tea Fire Victims File Suit

Lance and Carla Hoffman, the young couple badly burned when they tried to escape the Tea Fire as it raged around their rented home on Mountain Drive the night of November 13, 2008, have filed a civil lawsuit against the 10 people alleged to be responsible for the fire, as well as the owner of the Tea Garden property.
